Site Description:

The Salmon River, located in northern California, is one of the most biologically intact subbasins of the Klamath River Basin. The 751 square mile watershed is entirely within the Klamath National Forest and is considered a key watershed by the United States Forest Service. The watershed is currently inhabited by an estimated 300 people.

The Salmon River has long been known for its exceptionally high waters and high value fisheries, as well as boasting on of the richest regions of species diversity in the temperate zones. Our remote location boasts one of the richest regions of species diversity in the temperate zone. The Klamath River Basin is also home to several species of fish at risk of extinction: Summer and winter runs of wild Klamath Mountains Province Steelhead, spring and fall Chinook Salmon, and Coho Salmon.

The Salmon River Restoration Council is committed to serving the Salmon River subbasin. The mission of our organization is to assess, protect, and maintain the Salmon River ecosystems with the active participation of the local community, focusing on the anadromous fisheries resource and the development of a sustainable economy. We provide assistance and education to the general public and cooperating agencies by facilitating communication and cooperation between the local communities, managing agencies, Native American Tribes, and other stakeholders.
